The Victorian Government is pushing ahead with a risky plan to engineer the floodplain at Nyah Vinifera Park called the 'Victorian Murray Floodplain Recovery Plan' (VMFRP). They want to cut down hundreds of centuries-old River Red Gums to make way for levee banks, concrete, pumps and regulators to artificially manipulate these unique wetlands. The Governments agenda is to justify reducing water for the Murray River through an ambiguous water offset shceme. This project threatens to destroy vital remnant habitat, upend the fragile floodplain and disturb cultural heritage landscape.

We have been fighting against this engineering plan for years but the Government has ignored us, Traditional Owners, the local community and floodplain ecologists and are going ahead with the project despite all the evidence against it.

Local community members Wadi Wadi Elders have been camped at the gate of the park since the 23rd of may, keeping the sacred fire burning for over two months, in a last-ditch effort to stop the bulldozers and machines coming in. We are blockading and not allowing this destruction to take place - but we need your help.
